DIY Makeup Brush Cleaner

Ok, lets play a little game of truth or dare. Minus the dare. So tell the truth, how often do you clean your makeup brushes? Me, once a week! That's a total lie. Probably once every three months! I know I know... so bad right?! It's one of those things that you mean to do but just don't quite get around to. Kind of like flossing your teeth. I always have great intentions and then I remember that I didn't do it when I'm already in bed and 15 min. into BIP. Not happening.

So when I do clean my make up brushes I want to make sure that I am cleaning them with good quality products and in order to do this I make my own. No better way to be sure that you know what is in your product unless you DIY it!

DIY Makeup Brush Cleaner-

1/2 cup of witch hazel
2 tsp baby mild castile soap (Dr. Bronner's)
1 tsp vitamin e oil
6 drops wild orange essential oil
1 cup water

Mix all ingredients together and store in an air tight glass container. Wash brushes once a week! Ha! Or once a month!

I love the addition of the orange essential oil. It leaves your brushes smelling so fresh and every morning when you use them it releases that scent and gives you a little mini wake up call! Citrus scents are known for thier mood lifting and energy boosting properties!

Here's one more little pro tip- if you don't have the time to make a batch of this and your brushes desprately need cleaned... use your face wash! I know that seems like an expensive brush cleaner but your face is already used to that product and it wont break out your skin. Trust me it literally takes the tiniest bit to clean them.

Ok, I'm off to practice what I preach and get to cleaning. Yeah right, I'm going to pour another cup of coffee and binge listen to podcasts! Dreaming of Friday!!

Maca No Bake Cookies

No. Bake. Cookies. MACA. NO. BAKE. COOKIES. The End. But for real, is there anything better than a no bake cookie?! Yep... Maca No Bakes!! Your welcome!

I grew up eating these chewy delicious treats and loved every minute of it! Of course back then they were filled with disgusting ingredients. I have taken this childhood obsession and refreshed it for you guys making it a no guilt indulgence!

You know that feeling when something is so chocolatey that your mouth gets super dry and you can hardly chew anymore? No? Just me? Maybe thats because I ate like four of these in one sitting. Go ahead Judge Judy.. I know what you are thinking right now. Just wait until you try them!

These are the perfect dessert for "that time of the month". Not only are they so chocolatey that you will forget that you want to rip your ovaries out but the Maca actually helps balance your hormones!

Maca is naturally “high in minerals (calcium, potassium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and zinc), sterols (6 found), up to 20 essential fatty acids, lipids, fiber, carbohydrates, protein, and amino acids.” Maca is often recommended to those with adrenal fatigue as it nourishes them and reduces stress hormones.

So yeah, I bet you aren't judging me anymore!

And to top it all off they are so easy to make! I seriously made these in like 10 minutes.

Let me recap this for you!

Pure chocolate goodness + Hormone balancing goodness + 10 min = No more mega bitch!

I think we all win here!

Maca No Bake Cookies-

  • 1 Cup Sunflower Butter
  • 1/2 Cup Coconut Oil
  • 4 Tablespoons Honey
  • 6 Tablespoons Cacao Powder
  • 4 Tablespoons Maca Powder
  • 2 1/4 Cups Gluten Free Rolled Oats
  • Coarse Sea Salt

In a large pot melt Sunflower Butter, Coconut Oil, and Honey. Add Cacao and Maca then mix in the Oats. Drop large scoops onto wax paper. Sprinkle w/ Sea Salt. Let cool. Eat four cookies (JK!) Transfer to an air tight container and store in the refrigerator.

See its that easy!! Enjoy!

Strawberry Rhubarb Quinoa Breakfast Bars

My love of Rhubarb runs deep! Like REAL deep... so deep that I named my cat Rhubarb when I was like four years old! There is something about it that warms my heart! It reminds me of Summer, my Grandma and Mom, and delicious treats!

Every year my mom gives like 14,633,856 stalks of rhubarb from her garden. Rhubarb really goes crazy during the warm summer months! I can't wait to have my own garden some day. One of the first things I will plant will be rhubarb. As if we need more!? But like I said, it just warms my heart!

So needless to say I am always trying out new rhubarb recipes! This one is on the top of my list! It is chewy and moist (hate this word but how else do we really describe it?) and delish!

Strawberry Rhubarb Quinoa Breakfast Bars-

  • 1 1/2 cups gluten free quick cooking oats
  • 1 cup cooked quinoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/3 cup coconut sugar
  • 1/4 cup hemp seeds
  • 1 cup mashed bananas (about two bananas)
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons sunflower seed butter
  • 2 tables spoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cups chopped strawberries
  • 1/2 cup chopped rhubarb

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 9″x 9″ baking sheet with parchment paper and grease the sides with cooking spray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the oats, quinoa, sugar, baking powder, and hemp seeds.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the banana, nut butter, eggs, lemon juice and vanilla. Pour this mixture over the dry ingredients, mixing everything together until fully incorporated. The batter should be moist, but not runny. Fold in the strawberries and rhubarb.
  4. Transfer the batter into the prepared pan and smooth with a spatula.
  5. Bake on the center rack for 25 – 35 minutes until the bars are golden brown and firm to the touch.
  6. Remove and let cool completely in the pan, then remove and slice into squares (or rectangles). Store in an airtight container for 4 – 5 days.

Collagen aka Miracle Powder

Collagen is better than Botox! Trust me.. it is life changing! I am currently doing a 60 day collagen challenge and I will probably never stop! It is that amazing! I have gotten so many questions from you guys about the benefits, taste, brand etc. I decided that I would put all of my answers in one place! Here you go...

Let's start by discussing "what is collagen"? It is a fibrous protein present in living cells. Ok, I know that sounds a little weird when its put that way but hear me out because the benefits are unbelievable.

Some of the benefits I have noticed in my 60 days-

My skin is glowing! Like really dewy and plump... people have noticed and complimented!

My hair and nails are growing like crazy. I'm loving this benefit other than the fact that I feel like I need to increase my hair and nail appointment frequency. Oh well, that's a small (ish) price to pay!

Prepare yourself for TMI- we are gonna get real here! My digestion is on point. You could say I am REGULAR! Like real regular. It happens every day at the exact same time. Thank you collagen!

Other benefits include-

They support balanced hormones **I must add that I didn't know this was one of the benefits until doing some research before this post but I have to say that I am feeling more balanced. I am a very emotional person. Especially right before "that time of the month"... like I cry over a cute dog food commercial emotional. But guess what, I didn't cry one time before I started this month and I felt more stable. I think my bf did too!**

Supports bone and joint health

Supports weight loss

Aids in sleep

Reduces the appearance of cellulite

Need I go on?

I always have people ask me what it tastes like. The answer is NOTHING. OK, maybe not nothing but if you mix it with the right things you can't taste it at all! I mixed it with plain H2O once and it wasn't my fave. Not terrible but the aftertaste was a little odd. I mix it with coffee everyday! Or yogurt, soups, smoothies, and I even bake with it. See my Coconut Collagen Macaroons

**Tip- if you want to add it to your iced coffee then mix it with the hot espresso, don't try to mix it in with the ice. It won't combine well!**

My favorite brand is Vital Proteins! But I will keep trying different ones and give you the recommendations. There is a coconut vanilla flavor that I want to try next! Stay tuned!

I will continue to keep you guys posted on my collagen journey! Let me know if you try it and what you think!
